Polina Osetinskaya in Berlin: Leonid Desyatnikov’s “Songs of Bukovina” Piano Recital

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the Jewish communities “Chabad Berlin” and “Kahal Adass Jisroel” invite you to a special concert evening featuring the world-renowned pianist Polina Osetinskaya. The concert will take place in the Grand Hall of the “Pears Jüdischer Campus” in Berlin.

The program will center on the piano cycle “Songs of Bukovina” by composer Leonid Desyatnikov. The cycle consists of 24 preludes for piano, in which a contemporary musical language is combined with the traditions and folk motifs of Bukovina.

Leonid Desyatnikov is a graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory and one of the most significant contemporary composers to emerge from the post-Soviet cultural sphere. He left Russia immediately after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Today, the composer lives and works in Haifa. His creative legacy includes operas, cantatas, and vocal and instrumental works.

The cycle will be performed by Polina Osetinskaya—one of the most brilliant pianists of her generation. Having begun her international concert career as a child, she now performs on leading stages in Europe, America, and other countries. Polina Osetinskaya also performs regularly in Israel, where she is well known to concert audiences. Her performances are distinguished by virtuosity, depth of interpretation, and an exceptionally broad artistic range.

Immediately following the approximately one-hour concert, there will be a brief on-stage conversation with Polina Osetinskaya and Sergey Choban.

Sergey Choban is one of the most renowned contemporary architects, the designer of the Pears Jewish Campus, as well as numerous other significant architectural projects in Germany and beyond. The conversation will focus on music, art, and architecture—and on how different art forms create space, shape memory, and transform our perception of the world around us.

This evening is a joint cultural project of Chabad Berlin and Kahal Adass Jisroel. Partners and supporters of the event include the Embassy of the State of Israel in Germany, Berliner Sparkasse, the Blavatnik Family Foundation, the Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft (DIG), and Lampari Vertriebs GmbH.

The project aims to raise the profile of contemporary Jewish culture in Berlin and create a space where music, architecture, and public dialogue can come together.
