Event description

Sukhishvili – Georgia’s Legendary National Ballet

For more than 80 years, Georgia’s legendary national ballet “Sukhishvili” has embodied artistry, inner strength, and boundless energy. As the first and original ensemble of Georgian national dance— “The First and The Original” —“Sukhishvili” represents authentic Georgian culture worldwide like no other ensemble.

The Georgian National Ballet “Sukhishvili” was founded in 1945 by Iliko and Nino Sukhishvili. Today, the ensemble is led by the third generation of the founding family. The founders’ grandchildren have preserved and further developed this unique artistic legacy, making “Sukhishvili” a symbol of Georgian art and cultural identity.

Audiences in Germany, the U.S., Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Baltic states, and many other countries can look forward to an extraordinary program featuring the most significant choreographies from the ensemble’s entire history —masterpieces of the highest perfection and virtuosity that have long since become Georgia’s cultural calling card on stages around the world.

For eight decades, “Sukhishvili” has been thrilling millions of spectators on the world’s most prestigious stages—from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to La Scala in Milan. International media have described the ensemble as “the eighth wonder of the world” (The New York Times), “a whirlwind on stage” (Daily Telegraph), and “an energy that lifts the entire audience from their seats” (Le Figaro). All these descriptions have one thing in common: “Sukhishvili” is a phenomenon unlike any other in the world—a dazzling display of energy, elegance, and beauty.

The concert program is a true explosion of emotions. Breathtaking male choreography featuring spectacular acrobatics, massive leaps, and whirling sabers leaves the audience breathless, while the female dancers enchant with grace, elegance, and dignity. The ensemble’s unmistakable trademark remains the legendary men’s dance on tiptoes —a unique technique mastered exclusively by “Sukhishvili.”

In addition to the overwhelming art of dance, audiences can expect a fascinating visual experience: magnificent costumes made of natural fabrics, adorned with intricate silk embroidery, gemstones, and metal elements. The ensemble’s live orchestra creates a distinctive soundscape with rare Georgian instruments and centuries-old playing techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Eighty years of history mean the recognition of millions of enthusiastic spectators, tens of thousands of performances, guest appearances in over 100 countries on five continents, and performances on the world’s most prestigious stages. The “Sukhishvili” Ballet has forever inscribed its name in the history of international dance and music culture.

“Sukhishvili” is far more than a concert. It is a celebration where history, pride, and an incomparable vitality converge—an experience that will remain in the hearts of the audience for a long time to come.
