The action takes place in 1937, at the height of Stalin's repressions: The young public prosecutor Alexander Kornev, played by Alexander Kuznetsov, tries to achieve justice in the case of the wrongly convicted, but is soon drawn into a deadly system of fear, corruption and denunciations.

Event description

Soviet Union, 1937.
The time of Stalin's terror. Alexander Kornev, a young, ambitious public prosecutor, is investigating a provincial prison where a prisoner appears to have been wrongly imprisoned. Kornev wants to clear up the abuses. But bit by bit, the system strikes back. A film full of breathtaking suspense and Kafkaesque comedy.

About the director:

Sergei Loznitsa was born in Baranovichi in the former USSR (now Belarus) in 1964 and grew up in Kiev, Ukraine. He has dedicated himself to the art of film since 1996 and has since directed 28 award-winning documentaries and five feature films. His most recent work, Two Prosecutors, celebrated its world premiere in the competition program at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2025 and was awarded the "Prix François Chalais".
