Ivar Edmundovich was born into a simple working family, but thanks to his talent, hard work and courage he managed to climb to the very top of the creative Olympus, earning the high title of People's Artist of the Latvian SSR (1987), as well as the international award "Baltic Star" (2016).
His work in theater and cinema became part of an entire era, which many will never forget. At the same time, as an actor, Ivar Kalnynsh remains in demand to this day, continuing to surprise viewers with new projects.
Ivar Kalnynsh now continues to work actively: he participates in theater projects, appears at festivals, gives interviews, supports cultural initiatives. His path is an inspiration for young actors who see in him an example of a combination of skill, wisdom and professional honesty.
From a simple Riga student to a legend of the Soviet screen
Biography of Ivars Kalnynsha in his youth is not pestiferous with some bright events. The artist was born in 1948 in Riga, in the family of an automobile mechanic and a housewife, and at first had nothing to do with creativity. Parents wanted their son to get a "practical" profession, and as a teenager Ivar began to study locksmithing, and later began repairing computer equipment.
But still the young man's creative nature could not be hidden. He played in several rock bands and was a real "Beatleman", and after graduating from high school he decided to connect his life with art. He enrolled in the Latvian State Conservatory of Music. Я. Vitola at the theater faculty, and in 1974 he successfully completed his studies.
In the conservatory, the future actor received a truly fundamental training. And already from the first year he began to be invited to shoot in movies, for example, he played in the films "The Right to Jump", "Ilga-Ivolga", "Sancho's Faithful Friend" and others. As a result, his studies became the basis on which Ivar Kalnynsh's career later grew. Early works made him a notable artist, and gave a start to a great path in theater and cinema.
Theater career in Rainis and Shakespeare's classics
The big stage opened its doors when the artist, after graduating from the conservatory, came in 1972 to the Rainis Theater, one of the leading theaters in Latvia. It was here that his mature stage style was formed, which audiences have come to love for its multi-layered nature and emotional depth. He has performed numerous roles, including:
Richard Tishkov in Leonid Zhukhovitsky's Orpheus;
Don Antonio in Richard Sheridan's "Dueña";
Treplev in The Seagull by Anton Chekhov;
Indulis in Rainis's "Indulis and Aria."
Benedict in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing;
Michael in Sam Sheppard's "A Clever Lie."
Munchausen in "The Marriage of Munchausen" by M. Sievert.
In each production, the artist demonstrated different facets of his talent, and a total of almost 30 years of service to Melpomene on the stage of the theater "Dailes". Later he collaborated with other theater companies, and also began to participate in an entreprise.
Features of Ivar's style
The style of play of the artist has always been distinguished by nobility, restraint and deep emotionality. During the preparation for roles, he invariably paid great attention to the inner world of the character and has always avoided external naïveté. This allowed him to create a unique stage handwriting, which distinguished him among other actors, and made a real star of the theater.
Many directors noted his ability to listen to his partner on stage, which makes the game natural and convincing. An important element of his work was the ability to work with both classical texts and modern works. He created images that combined strength, subtlety of character, and dramatic depth.
Thanks to these qualities, he won the respect of his colleagues and the love of the audience. His performances in the theater became a significant part of the cultural life of Latvia, and productions with his participation were often a real full house.

Ivar has always been able to create an image that was memorable for the audience, and his movie career practically did not stop either in the 90s or after. This favorably distinguishes Ivar from his colleagues, who often had to face creative downtime and unclaimed.
Today, the actor participates in various projects in his homeland and abroad, combining theater roles with creative evenings, interviews, etc. Despite his already very respectable age, he is still very much in demand, and is not yet planning to retire.
Personal life and plans for the future
Ivar Kalnynsh's family is an important part of his life that fans often ask about. His personal history includes three marriages, each of which played a different role in the artist's destiny. His family and children have always supported his creative path, despite his intense work schedule.
The first wife of the artist was Ilga. The couple married in 1971 and lived together for about 20 years. They had daughters Una and Helena. Ivar's second wife is actress Aurelia Anuzhita, who is 24 years younger than him. They met in 1992 during the filming of the movie, and in 1994 the couple had a son, who was named Mikas.
The third marriage the actor concluded with a lawyer Laura Magazniece in the early 2000s. Now the chosen one was younger by 30 years. From this union Ivan has 2 daughters - Louise Darta and Vivienne Anna.
The artist lived most of his life in Riga, and he still carefully preserves the connection with his native places. He often participates in cultural projects in the city, meets the public, performs at creative evenings and attends classical concerts. This "Riga heritage" makes the artist especially close to the Latvian audience.
Despite his busy schedule, Ivar always emphasizes the importance of family and personal values. He tries to make time for his loved ones, to be involved in his children's lives, and to maintain warm relationships. This harmony helps him to remain confident and calm while continuing his creative endeavors.
