30 Seconds to the Renaissance: the last novel of the Middle Ages

In the lecture "30 Seconds to the Renaissance" we will talk about turning points. What happens to man and text at the boundary of epochs? Where does the religious picture of the world end and the humanistic one begin? And is it true that the (seemingly) distant literature of the Middle Ages is much closer to us than we think?

In search of an answer to these questions, we will look back 600 years to the years when the millennia-old medieval world was cracking under the pressure of the new age. We will look at the last great novel of the Middle Ages and try to catch a glimpse of how the new time was born - and how it was reflected in literature.

Our guides will be those who lived at the juncture, from Geoffrey Chaucer and Leonardo da Vinci to the protagonist of this lecture, the knight-errant Sir Thomas Malory.

This is a meeting for those who want to understand how a person changes when the world changes. It is a meeting about the dislocated joint of the century - including our own.
