Vopli Vidoplyasova are the founders of rock'n'roll and ethno-rock on the Ukrainian stage. Their compositions combine chastushka intonations and folklore motifs. The band is considered legendary in their homeland. The members are the founders and guides of the new wave on the stage - Ukrainian rock.
The foundation of "BB" and the first lineup
The biography of the band begins in 1986. The founders of the Ukrainian collective are Yuri Zdorenko and Alexander Pipa. They previously played together in SOS. At one of the events, fate brought them together with the future vocalist and band leader Oleg Skrypka. He mastered playing different musical instruments: accordion, saxophone, guitar. And the fourth member of the collective was chosen drummer Sergei Sakhno. He is the only one from all participants has musical education. Sakhno is a professional drummer and conductor. The others are self-taught.
Debut and the beginning of creative activity
Within a year after the creation the guys worked on the repertoire creation. And in 1987 a grand debut took place in Kiev. "Vopli Vidoplyasova" took part in a rock festival. The band presented its first album "Ayyayayayayayay". The debut was successful and the band was recognized as "Group of the Year", and "Song of 1987" becomes their "Cry of Yaroslavna". The program also included:

- "Rozmova z Mahatma."
The track "Tantsi" established itself as the anthem of the Ukrainian band. The song quickly spread throughout the republics of the Union and became its "calling card". A video clip was shot for the composition, which reflected the sincere and cheerful mood of the band. From that moment the career of "BB" went upwards. The first performances of the group were centered in Kiev, but over time the musicians began to give concerts in other cities and countries.
In 1988, the organization "Rock Artel" was created. During this period, there were numerous concerts at festivals. All performances of "Wopley" were crowned with great success. A year later, the musicians conquered Leningrad. The festival gathered other rock stars, who soon became legends of the genre. In 1989 the band recorded their second album. "Tantsi" entered the hundred best compilations of Russian rock.
"French" period
In the early 90's began touring in European countries. Ethno-rock performed by Ukrainian musicians came to the liking of foreign listeners. They were interested in Soviet performers, despite the fact that the compositions were not performed in English. The group was noticed and noted by a Parisian concert company, which invited "BB" to France.
Successful take-off and rapidly growing popularity led to the fact that the leader of the group Oleg Skripka and Sasha Pipa moved to Paris. During this period the work on the album "Muzika" was actively going on. The band performed in Switzerland and Greece. Ukrainian musicians spent 5 years in the French capital. There were changes in the line-up. The places of guitarist and drummer were taken by Parisian musicians - Stephan Mouflié and Philip Mozha.
In 1996 Ukrainian musicians returned to their homeland. Ex-percussionist Sakhno took his place again. A new member - Evgeny Rogachevsky appeared in the collective.
Further development of "BB"
In 1997 "Vopli Vidoplyasova" released the album "Muzika". It included the compositions "Spring" and "Yura", which became hits. A year later, the musicians published the collection "The Land of Dreams". Its peculiarity - old songs written at the beginning of creative activity. Since that time it became a tradition to dilute new compilations with hits of the past years.
In 2000 the disk "Khvili Amur" was presented to the fans. It included old compositions and new tracks. The "highlight" of the collection was the song "Day of People's Day". In it the musicians combined Ukrainian motifs with Indian ones. A video clip was shot for the song. After its premiere, the composition quickly gained popularity, was broadcast on radio stations and sounded hit parades.
This period was the time of touring in the former Soviet republics and beyond. With their performances, Vopli Vidoplyasova visited Israel and America. The band performed for Bill Clinton during his visit to Ukraine.
For their twentieth birthday, the band released the collection "Buli Denki". The concert organized in honor of the anniversary was attended by thousands of fans who could be charged with the energy of "BB" and other invited artists. A year later Alexander Pipa left the band. As the musician himself said, he wanted to go beyond the established style. Alexey Melchenko took his place.
In 2008 the discography was supplemented with a live album in two parts. "BB" presented the country the anthem of Ukraine in a rock arrangement, than emphasized the high level of patriotism.
In 2016, the collective celebrated its 30th anniversary. The band gave a grandiose concert, which did not have any guest artists. The legendary "Vopli Vidoplyasova" were on stage the whole time of the performance. The band organized a tour that went beyond Ukraine. With their anniversary tour the musicians visited Canada and the USA.
A year later the band was left without Oleksiy Melchenko. Mykola Usatiy took his place.
The band even today remains true to its traditions. Despite the years of existence, the fervor of the musicians and the leader does not run out. They search, try their compositions in new arrangements, experiment with the sound of songs, release clips and give concerts.
