Event description

"Bench" - Alexander Gelman's legendary play for the first time on the stages of Germany.

In May 2026, audiences in Germany will see for the first time one of the most important texts of Soviet dramaturgy - Alexander Gelman's play "The Bench", which has remained a subtle exploration of human intimacy and loneliness for four decades.

Created in 1983 and long banned from staging, "The Bench" tells of a chance meeting between a man and a woman who once knew each other but now seem to be meeting for the first time. In this conversation, there is play and truth, the desire to be heard and the fear of admitting their own vulnerability. This is a story about the search for love, trust and meaning - simple and at the same time infinitely complex.

The premiere of the play took place at the legendary Moscow Art Theater under the direction of Oleg Yefremov. At that time Tatiana Doronina and Oleg Tabakov shone on stage - it was with their names that the long theatrical life of "The Bench" began, which was later translated into dozens of languages and staged all over the world.

Now this classic has found a new sound. In the production are engaged:

Alexei Panin - theater and film actor, graduate of GITIS, who played on the stage of the Oleg Tabakov Theater and the Moscow Drama Theater named after Pushkin. Known for the films "Zhmurki", "Star", "D.M.B.", "Soldiers", "Truckers". Twice nominated for the national film award "Nika".

Vera Kutsenko is an actress of theater and cinema, whose roles are marked by subtle psychology and sincerity.

"Bench" - it's not just a play, and a trusting conversation with the audience about the main thing: about hope, love and the ability to be near.
Don't miss the opportunity to see the legendary play in a new interpretation - for the first time in Germany.
