Event description

"With warmth from California!" Concert and dance evening. 2 hours of joy!

Romances, songs in Iwrit, Yiddish, Russian, English.

On 11.01.2026 you will have the opportunity to experience Svetlana Portnyansky, the "Russian Streisand", as she is called by admirers, live in our church.

Portnyansky comes from the former Soviet Union and fled to the United States in 1991. Her career began at the Shalom Theater in Moscow. After leaving the country, she trained at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Today she works as a cantor and gives concerts on all continents of the world.

Born in Moscow, Svetlana Portnyansky's youthful style, sensational voice and charm have made her one of the best-known Jewish singers in Russia and the world. She graduated from the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow in 1986 and began singing at the Shalom Theater in Moscow. In 1991 she won first prize at the Moscow "Pop-n-Rock Festival". In the same year, she emigrated to the USA, where she trained as a cantor at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She then took up a position at the Conservative Synagogue of Los Angeles. She also tours the world as a solo singer.

With her Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian songs, she makes every hall vibrate. Her singing unites faith in God, respect for Jewish tradition and love for the land of Israel.

SVETLANA PORTNYANSKY is accompanied on the piano by multi-musician BORIS ROSENTHAL.
