Event description

Music by P. I. Tchaikovsky · Ballet in two acts

Tchaikovsky’s music opens the door to a world that has been associated with the Christmas season for more than 130 years. The Nutcracker tells the story of that special night when the familiar suddenly becomes mysterious and fantasy transforms reality.

On Christmas Eve, Clara discovers a wooden nutcracker under the decorated tree. During the night, he comes to life. Together, they face the Mouse King, journey through a snow-covered winter forest, and finally reach the realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy. For a moment, dream and reality seem to merge.

The story is based on E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.” The figure of the Nutcracker is also deeply rooted in German Christmas tradition. For centuries, it has been regarded as a good-luck charm and protector of the home.

Tchaikovsky’s composition gives the ballet its unmistakable sound. The “Flower Waltz, the “Dance of the Reed Flutes,” and the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” have long been part of the standard repertoire of classical music. The celesta, in particular, with its bright, ethereal tone, shapes the fairy-tale atmosphere of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

One of the most impressive scenes is the Snowflake Waltz. The stage is transformed into a wintry landscape as the ensemble translates Tchaikovsky’s music into flowing movement. Dance, light, and music come together to create a serene, poetic image.

Iconic Classical Ballet presents this Christmas classic in a traditional production featuring soloists and ensemble members from renowned European theaters. Classical choreography, magnificent costumes, and atmospheric sets accompany Clara on her journey through a world of fantasy.

The Nutcracker—a story of courage, imagination, and the quiet magic of Christmas Eve.
