Critical Bow, Cello Duo presents the program "Anime & Game Music," which is entirely dedicated to musical themes from legendary video games and masterpieces of Japanese animation. The Berlin-based duo, consisting of classically trained cellist Cicely Parnas and cellist Gagik Makichian, combines chamber music precision with great stylistic openness.
The program blends complex scores and lyrical melodies into a continuous musical narrative. The repertoire includes music from cult role-playing games: from the dark fantasy worlds of The Witcher III and Baldur’s Gate III to the epic universes of Skyrim, Genshin Impact, and Clair Obscur.
A large part of the performance is dedicated to anime classics. The program features works by Joe Hisaishi from the films Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, as well as title themes from projects that have become cultural phenomena: Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, Naruto Shippuden, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sailor Moon, Pokémon, and The Apothecary Diaries.
The chosen format allows for a completely new experience of familiar compositions. The rich, deep sound transports the soundtracks of modern pop culture into a classical academic context. Heroic orchestral themes unfold with an intimate, chamber-music-like effect, while retaining their original grandeur, dynamism, and emotional tension.
