Sofia Rotaru (Sofia Rotaru) is a famous Ukrainian singer with Moldovan roots. Her amazingly strong voice and bright manner of performance have been delighting millions of fans in all countries for many years. More than one generation has grown up on her songs. Her repertoire includes more than 500 compositions in different languages. The most famous among them are "Chervona ruta", "Lavender", "Hutoryanka", "Luna-luna", "I loved him", "One Kalina".
Childhood years
Looking at this eternally young, well-groomed woman, it is very difficult to believe that she has already passed the eighth decade. But it is really so.
Sofia Rotaru (Sofia Rotaru) was born on August 7, 1947. Childhood years of the future celebrity passed in the native village of Marshintsy near Chernivtsi. The girl's parents were simple people: her mother worked at one of the markets, her father headed a brigadier of vineyards. In total there were 6 children in the family, and Sofia, as one of the elders, helped the adults to bring them up in every possible way.
The future artist got acquainted with the world of music thanks to her sister Zinaida, who was blind in infancy, but had a good ear. She memorized songs that sounded on the radio, and then taught to sing little Sonia. The girl's father, who had a beautiful voice, also played an important role in this. He was already confident that his daughter has a great future.
Sophia grew up very mobile and inquisitive. In childhood, she willingly engaged in multiathlon, went to the drama club, learned to play folk instruments. In addition, the girl sang in the choir, together with other participants actively performed concerts in neighboring villages. Already at that time she impressed listeners with her strong voice, for which she was nicknamed "Bukovyna nightingale".
The beginning of her musical career
Sofia's first fame came at the age of 15, when she won prizes at the district and regional amateur talent contests and got the opportunity to demonstrate her talent at the festival of the republican level. Here another victory was waiting for her. The subsequent performance in the Kremlin Palace of Congresses brought the girl all-union fame. About Rotaru began to talk, and her photo decorated the cover of a popular magazine.
The career of the singer developed rapidly. In just a few years, she
- made herself known at the world level, winning the first prize at the next festival of talented youth in Bulgaria;
- played a role and performed her songs in the movie "Chervona Ruta";
- organized an ensemble with the same name at the Chernivtsi Philharmonic, with which she began to tour not only in the country, but also abroad;
- won another victory in the "Golden Orpheus" competition;
- for the first time reached the finals of the popular festival "Song of the Year";
- was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
At that moment she was only 26 years old.
In 1975, due to ideological disagreements with the local regional party committee, Sofia Rotaru was forced to leave Chernivtsi and moved with the ensemble to Yalta, becoming a soloist of the Philharmonic Society. As part of the group, she continued to tour the country, released several records with songs, repeatedly became a participant in the holiday "Blue Light" and the winner of the festival "Song of the Year". Even tried herself as an actress, starring in several films.
Solo career
In 1986, the collective "Chervona ruta" broke up. Its members wanted to still perform folk songs, so they decided to perform without Sofia Rotaru. For the singer it was a complete surprise. Rotaru had to look for herself anew and other directions. An important role in her solo career and creative biography was played by composer Vladimir Matetsky, who is the author of the songs:
- "Luna-luna";
- "It was, but it's gone";
- "Only This Is Not Enough."
It was they who brought the singer incredible popularity and forever remained in the golden fund of the domestic variety.
Along with working on new songs, Rotaru continued to actively tour the country. All this made her one of the most popular singers on the stage and allowed her to receive the title of People's Artist of the USSR.
After the collapse of the Union, Sofia Mikhailovna did not lose her position and replenished her discography with several collections of the best hits recorded in different styles. She continued to star in movies, recorded several compositions together with other stars, presented new concert programs to the public. All this allowed her to maintain her popularity among fans and brought dozens of prestigious awards and titles.
Personal life
The personal life of the singer, unlike the creative life, has always been quiet and calm. With her husband Anatoly Evdokimenko, the artist met in 1964. Then he was a young man who was fond of music and dreamed of creating his own ensemble. He saw a photo of Rotaru on the cover and immediately decided that the girl is a perfect candidate for the role of soloist. Anatoly found her and offered to work together. Soon the creative union grew into something more. In 1968, the young people married, and two years later the couple had a son Ruslan.
The spouses lived together for more than 30 years. The death of her husband, who died in 2002, was a real blow for Sofia Mikhailovna. The artist strongly experienced the loss and for a whole year fell out of the public eye, canceling all concerts.
Currently, the singer lives alone. Her only son grew up, his work is directly related to show business. The singer has two grandchildren - Anatoly and Sophia, named in honor of the famous grandparents.
